In many Software installations, you find the words "GNU GPL". In this tip we will explain what this is exactly.

This allows you the GNU GPL license

The GNU General Public License - GNU GPL for short - is a license for Software. It was first written in 1989, and is now in the third Version (GNU GPLv3). The license includes the following points:
  • With the license, you can legally copy source code of the GPL programs to use, distribute, and modify.
  • You may use the Software only if you license your tool is also GPL.
  • Software with GPL-license, you may also use for any purpose - including commercial.
  • The complete license text can be found on the official Website of the GNU GPL. There you will find also a tutorial on how you can license your own program with the GPL.
