As an example we use an Icon, which we outline want to save as a vector graphic.
- Download the file with a transparent Background in Gimp via the menu "file" > "Open ...".
- Select in the layers dialog, the open level and click with a right click on it. Choose "selection from alpha channel". Thus, everything is selected except for the transparency.
- The layers dialog should not be displayed, you can access it via the menu "Windows", "Dockable dialogs" again.
- Now select in the menu "selection" > "To path". The selection is now saved in a path.
- In the same Dialog, in which the information about the levels, you will also find the "paths"Dialog on the Tab selector at the top (see Screenshot). Right-click the path that contains the outline of your graphic and select "path export ...".
