Gimp: font outline – how to

Fonts you can edge with the image-editing program Gimp is easy and in addition many more effects to add. Thus, you can make your images look even better and give them a personal touch.

Step 1: font with Gimp insert

  1. Open an image with Gimp.
  2. Select in the tool the Option "Text from box".
  3. Click at the location of the image you want to insert the font.
  4. In the Editor, enter the Text for your image and place it on your artwork.

Step 2: lettering in Gimp edge

  1. Highlight the Text on your photo and select the Text layer in the layers menu.
  2. In the context menu click on "selection from alpha channel". The Text on your image is outlined with a dashed line.
  3. Select in the tool box the color selection Dialog and set the desired color for your border.
  4. Then click the tab "edit" and in the context menu to "choice, re-tighten".
  5. A new window will open. Here you can set the border style. For example, select the line width or the dash pattern.
  6. After you click OK, the font outlined and you can get the image to export.
