Gimp: DPI change and set - so it goes

In Gimp you can change the DPI of an image and its logical resolution. Also, when you Create a new workspace, the DPI of the image can be set. We will show you how both works.

Gimp: DPI of a photo change

The DPI of an image describe the image dots-per-inch. With Gimp, you can increase this value later in or zoom out.
  1. To do this, open the photo to be processed in the image-editing program.
  2. Then click in the menu bar, click "image" and "scale image".
  3. In the new window, set next to "Y-resolution" the unit "pixels/in". The unit is pixels-per-Inch, so DPI describes.
  4. Now you can change the value for the X - and Y-resolution and the DPI of the image to adjust.
  5. Save your Changes finally, with "OK".

Gimp: DPI for the new work area set

In Gimp you can not only edit already existing images, but also new working areas create and work with. Here, too, the DPI can be number arbitrarily set.
  1. To do so, open Gimp and click on "file" and "New". It opens a window.
  2. There you have to click on the section "Advanced settings".
  3. Next to the entry "Y-resolution", set the unit to "pixels/in".
  4. You can then set via the input fields "X-resolution" and "Y-resolution" is the DPI free.
  5. The finished work surface, they create OK.
