Foobar itself is kept very slim. The many Plug-ins make the Software an all-rounder. An Overview of additional components you can find, along with detailed document ion here. Three components are necessary to manage your music collection perfectly:
  1. With Columns UI, you can use the graphical interface of Foobar 2000, adjust so that the Playlist Organizer can be loaded. To do this, select under "File", "Preferences", "Display", "Columns UI" and under the tab "Main" and the Button "Quick Setup", the "NG Playlist+Playlist Switcher+Artwork".
  2. The Playlist Organizer brings a file and folder structure for your Playlists.
  3. Playback Statistics collects data that are needed to your music collection, ideal to manage - for example, a review of the play, when a song first, and last game was played and how often.

Automatic Playlists

Unlike static Playlists, which can only be changed manually, update auto-playlists automatically. If you are creating your auto playlists make sense, is added to each new file of your music collection by itself to all the desired Playlists. A prerequisite for correct Tags in the music files.
  • Click in Foobar on "Library", "Search".
  • Enter search criteria, click "..." and "Create Autoplaylist".
  • If you enter only a point that contains the generated Playlist, each file in your music collection, and adds independently in real time every file that is moved to a watched folder.
  • Simple search criteria, usually as follows: %field% CRITERION of "content". "The field" are Tag fields, like %artist%, %album%, %genre%, %rating%, %date%, %lyrics%, and each additional field that you have defined. It determines what you are looking for. Criteria be written in block letters and sounds, for example, IS (is), HAS (has), the GREATER (bigger) or LESS (smaller). "Content" is what you are actually looking for. Multiple search criteria can not) be combined with AND (and) and NOT (.
  • "%genre% HAS rock AND %rating% GREATER 3 AND %lyrics% PRESENT" is generated, for example, an auto Playlist that contains any kind of rock music, whose rating is above 3, and showing a field called "lyrics" in the Plug-ins how "Lyrics Grabber 2" the lyrics write.
  • For more filtering commands you will find, for example, in this Foobar-Manual and in this Overview.
  • "Playback Statistics" adds one or more field commands, for example %added% (add date), %rating% (rating), %PLAY_COUNT% (numerator) %first_played% (for the first Time played) and %last_played% (last played). So you can create "%last_played% DURING LAST 4 WEEKS", a Playlist containing all the songs you listened to in the last 4 weeks.
