In the case of FileZilla with SSH Key login
The SSH Key consists of a public and a private key file. You can get a key pair by using the program PuTTYgen to create. In order to use the key, you must save the public key in a text file, and the Administrator of the server to. You can then do the following in Filezilla log:
- Start FileZilla.
- Click on the icon to the far left, to add a Server.
- Select "new Server". Here you can assign any name for the Server.
- Enter under "Server" the IP address or the DNS name of the server. Select the Protocol "SFTP", unless the connection is SFTP.
- You can also add your user name and you set "connection type", select "Interactive".
- Confirm with "OK".
- Navigate via the menu point "edit" to the settings.
- Now select on the left side of "SFTP".
- You can now add the button to the "key file" of your previously created private key file to select. Important: do not Give this file to anyone!
- Finally confirm with "OK".
- You can now connect to the newly added Server by clicking on the arrow in the upper left corner.
- If a warning message appears, can you confirm this is "OK". You are now connected to the Server.
