The DHCP Server on the Router do
Almost every Router has a DHCP Server, you need to actually turn on. This is the easiest variant, because you must set up neither a Server nor any Software to install.
- You go with your Browser to the configuration page of your router. These are found under the IP of the device, e.g. "192.168.1.1". If you have a FritzBox, and type "fritz.box" in the address bar. Log on as an Admin.
- If you do not know the address of your router, open a bar, go to Windows start and go to "Run". Type in there "cmd" and press Enter to confirm. A black console window will open. Here you can see with the command "ipconfig" in the network configuration of your computer. Under the "Gate" is the IP of your router.
- The settings for the DHCP Server, you often find under the menu "network", "LAN Setup" or "settings". In the FritzBox-DHCP is on Server by default. Connected devices you can see under "home network" and edit it.
- In the FritzBox you can use the DHCP Server under "home network-network - network settings" and the button "IPv4 addresses" on and off. In addition, the address range is set, in which the Server is supposed to work.
- If you are working with two routers, a switch only one of the two DHCP servers. Two DHCP servers in a network interfere with each other.
