Bachelor's degree based charge - so it goes
In the Bachelor's and master's degree grades are weighted by European Credit Transfer System points (ECTS). Therefore, you cannot simply add up all scores and by the number of notes to share. Follow these steps to calculate your grade point average:
- Multiply the grade of each subject with the respective ECTS.
- Add up all the products (i.e. the results from step 1) to each other.
- Calculate the sum of all ECTS.
- Divide the sum from step 2 by the sum from step 3, you will receive your current grade point average.
- Comments: In some courses, you can swipe the notes, in the other hand, certain subjects will be weighted multiple times. This information you must refer to your study and examination regulations.
University grade point average to calculate with Excel
At the beginning of your studies, you can use a note list with Excel to create, the you automatically the current section will be issued. We will explain in the following steps, exactly how you need to proceed:
- Create a four-column table in Excel: In the first column enter the names of the events, in the second column, all of the notes and in the third column, the corresponding ECTS points. We assume in this example that you start right in the first row and the first column.
- Now you write in the fourth column of the first row, the formula "=B1*C1". Copy this formula and paste it in each box of the fourth column. Excel transforms the formula automatically to the respective rows.
- At the lower end of the table you create in the third column the sum of all ECTS - which should result in a Bachelor's programme of 180 ECTS credits, provided that no points will be deducted for an internship, etc. You write this under the last ECTS-entry "=sum(C1:Cx)". The "x" replace it with the last line that appears in your table - in 23 subjects, e.g., "C23" (see screen photo).
- Repeat step three, in the fourth column. This allows you to calculate the sum of the weighted scores.
- Finally, in the fifth column of the same row the formula "=D23/C23". The result gives the current grade average and a full list of grades of your bachelor grade from.
