Starting point: A straight line
The starting point for the wave lines represent straight lines. To create a straight line, there are in Adobe Illustrator in several ways:
- Select from the tool palette in the left pane of the Software, the line segment tool. You can then create a line by dragging on the artboard while holding down the left mouse the line button.
- Using the pen tool you can draw a quick and easy lines. Click with the left mouse button anywhere in the drawing area. This is the starting point of the lines. Now click again, holding down the mouse button on a different area of the drawing area. This is the point at which the line ends. Confirm with "Enter" the line. With the drawing tool, you can also create lines, which extend over several points.
- With the brush and the pencil tool from the drawing palette you can draw lines freehand. Press and hold the left mouse button and draw the line, as you please.

After you have created a straight line, you can bring this into the desired wave form. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Select in the menu bar, the menu item "effect".
- Then, you open through "distortion and transformation filter" the Option "zig-zag".
- The transform now in a zig-zag course at the end of the line in shafts, mark the Option "Transition".
- In the window of the Filter "zig-zag" you can now edit the line as desired. About "size" may be determined by the height of the waves and "waves per Segment" is the number of waves.
- To stop editing the line, click on "OK".
