Adjust subtitles in VLC Media Player

The VLC Media Player allows you to subtitles in many different ways to customize. We will show you what functions there are and how you use it.

So you have to all settings access, you must enable it before. Here's how:
  1. Select in the menu tools "and then" settings panel.
  2. Click below left to "All" (see image). This step must be repeated whenever you open the setting window.

Subtitles in VLC to sync

  1. You open a Video in VLC Media Player and click in the top menu bar on "tools". From there you can select the "track synchronization".
  2. Under the "subtitles/Video" you will find the "subtitle synchronization". Here, you can now move the time forward or backward, the subtitles will be displayed. To do this, click on the arrow up or down.
  3. You will appreciate here initially, a value, and click on the "Close" Button. You now look, if the subtitle is not in sync. This is not the case, repeat the process until the subtitle is out of sync to the sound.

The Position of the subtitles track in VLC to change

  1. Click on "tools" in the VLC menu bar and select "settings".
  2. Click on the icon "subtitles & OSD" on the left side of the preferences window.
  3. You type in the window "subtitles & On Screen Display settings" a value into the text field "subtitle position, a force". A positive value moves the subtitle track on the screen to the top, a negative value down.
  4. Note: Option works only if the subtitle consists of a text file, but not if the track is already integrated into the Video.

Transparency of the subtitle set

  1. You go on the menu bar to "tools" > "settings".
  2. In the left menu, locate the item "Video" and select the sub-item "subtitles/OSD".
  3. There you click again on the item "mosaic" and can make in the now opened window the first item to the "transparency" of the appropriate settings.
  4. Tip: the height and width of the subtitle font you can change here.

  1. Go to "tools" > "settings" > "Video" > "subtitles/OSD".
  2. There you can select the sub-item "text renderer". Here you can determine settings such as "Font", "font size" and "font color".

  1. Start the playback of a DVD, and you click with the right mouse button on the image.
  2. You can open the context menu of "subtitle" and then the "lane".
  3. Here you can activate the subtitles on and off.
  4. If you want to disable the subtitles permanently, press [Ctrl]+[P] the "settings". There you have the item "Input/Codecs" to view.
  5. Here you can change the "subtitle track ID to" -1 to 0, the subtitles permanently off.
  6. Subtitles turn it on permanently, set the value to +1.
