With Thunderbird you can check your E-Mails for viruses and various security arrangements to make.

Thunderbird: anti-Phishing protection, enable and E-mail for suspicious characteristics

The Thunderbird built-in Phishing protection checks all incoming E-Mails for suspicious characteristics and warns you if necessary. Enable Phishing protection, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Thunderbird menu bar, click "tools".
  2. In the opened menu, select "settings".
  3. Under the "security" tab select "fraud" and activate the Option "messages on attempts at fraud (Phishing), to investigate".

Thunderbird: Of Other Anti-Virus Protection

You can connect Thunderbird with your Anti-Virus program. They allow so that your Anti-Virus program can move incoming virus emails in quarantine.
  1. The Option is located in the "tools" -> "settings".
  2. Here, again select the tab "security".
  3. Now click on "Anti-Virus" and activate the Option "Anti-Virus Software allow you to make incoming messages in quarantine".
  4. Save the Changes via "OK".

Be sure to keep Thunderbird up to date. Old Thunderbird versions may contain security gaps. Secure your E-Mail traffic also, if you use the SSL encryption in Thunderbird, enable.
