Tool Inbox Repair
The "Tool to Repair the Inbox" will be shipped with Outlook 2010. It checks whether the file structure of your Outlook data files intact. Discrepancies are found, reset the Software, the existing data file structure and tries to fix existing problems.
Outlook data file restore
To repair your Outlook data file in the shortest amount of time:
- Important: Outlook must be closed during the use of the "Tools for the Repair of the Inbox". It can't be from Outlook to the Software accessed.
- Depending on whether you have installed Windows and Outlook, in the 32-Bit or 64-Bit version, open the following folder using Windows Explorer: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14" (32-Bit) or "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14" (64-Bit).
- In one of these two folders you will find the file "scanpst.exe" which you can open with a double click.
- Click on "Browse" to your Outlook data file and select or type the name in the field "Enter the name of the test file" (see image gallery).
- To the examination, specify log options, click on the "options" button and select one of the 3 given options. You can choose between "log file/overwrite", "To the existing log file to attach" or "No log file". If you are performing for the first Time a repair, it is recommended the first Option.
- After all settings are done, click on the button "Start". Be determined during the Validation errors, you will be prompted to start the repair.
- During the repair process, a backup file is created. To change the default name or the location of the file, click on "Browse" or type the new name in the field "Name of the backup file type".
- Now click on the button "Repair" to start repair. The log file you can find in the same folder as the.PST file.

After the completion of the repair, you can start Outlook with the profile that the repaired data file contains. Click in the navigation pane of Outlook, to the point of "folder list" or use the key combination "CTRL-6" to switch to it.
- In the folder list, see the "recovered Personal folder" with the default Outlook folders or a "elements without mapping". The recovered folders are usually empty because this is a newly created PST-file. In the folder "elements without assignment" find the folders and items that the were manufactured from the "Tool to Repair the Inbox" again.
- Via the menu item "Start - New items - More items - Outlook data file" in Outlook, you can create a new PST-file and the items in the folder "elements without mapping" in the new file. Once you have finished moving all items, you can remove the above folder called "recovered Personal folders" and "items without attribution" from your profile.
