Word count in Excel – how to

In Excel, you can always count only the words used within a line. A Count of all used words is not possible.
  • You can use the function "=LENGTH(cell)-LENGTH(REPLACE(cell;" ";""))+1", to count the words in a line.
  • Change "cell" with the actual line, such as, for example, A3.
  • Tip: to calculate the total number of words, you can use the formula =(SUM(Cell1;Cell2;Cell3).
  • Here, too, you need to adjust "Cell1" with the first cell, "Cell2" with the second, and "Cell3" with the third cell.
  • A result you will see in our next picture.
