In the spreadsheet Excel, you can define a name, too. We will show you in this practice tip, exactly how this works.

In Excel, define name and use – so it works

  1. Click on the cell whose name you want to define.
  2. The top left of the program you will see the current name of the cell, for example A1.
  3. Click in the field and enter the desired name. Save with [Enter].
  4. Alternatively, you can also "formulas" > "define name" to use.
  5. You have called a cell, for example, "VAT", and another "value" you can use the formula "=SUM(value, VAT)".
  6. A Name can be up to 255 characters long, letters, Numbers, underscore and dot included, as well as with a letter or an underscore .
  7. Not possible, hyphens, and spaces. In addition, the name cannot look like cell references (e.g. A5, C23).
