OS X: folder for Screenshots set

Under MacOS X, you can specify a folder for your Screenshots. By default, these are saved to the Desktop. With a special command set up a folder for your Screenshots. We explain to you how it works.

Your Screenshots will be saved on your desktop. This makes for a cluttered Desktop. Choose, therefore, a suitable path for your Screenshot-folder.
  1. First, create a new folder anywhere on your Mac Computer. By right-clicking on your desktop or in a folder, and then select "New folder". Then specify a name.
  2. Next, enter in the Spotlight search, the keyword "Terminal" and choose the first hit. Alternatively, you can find this program in the utilities folder.
  3. In the Terminal, enter the following command without quotes: "defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/your user name/location/folder name; killall SystemUIServer". To enter at the right point in your user-name and the place and the name of your Screenshot-folder.
  4. Tip: Instead of the path of the folder laboriously by Hand typing, you can drag the desired folder in the right place the command into the Terminal inside. The subsequent command "killall SystemUIServer" can be separately run.
