MacOS X: Airport Express set up properly

How to set up a Mac Airport Express properly, we will show you in this practical tip. The small Router from Apple is a real all-rounder and quite cheap. And the setup is quite simple.

Setting up an Airport Express on MacOS X

Your Airport Express is set up on best with the included AirPort utility for MacOS X:
  1. Open AirPort utility and select from the list of available devices to the Airport Express. Click on the "edit"Button.
  2. If you have configured the Airport Express already, you need to enter the password.
  3. On the first page with the tab "base station" give the Airport Express a name and set a password. In addition, you can configure the function "back to my Mac". You want to set up the Router but just a normal, simply the Name and the password.

  6. In the tab "network" tab, set the options for your Wi-Fi: Should be able to manage another device like a Fritzbox your network, turn off the Router mode to "Off (Bridge mode)". The Airport Express is to control the network, specify whether to only offer DHCP or DHCP and NAT. DHCP and NAT you should select only if your Airport Express is connected directly to the Internet Provider, and no other Router is connected in between. If in doubt, you use DHCP.
  7. On the "AirPlay" set whether you music from iTunes via Airport Express to a Stereo system or active speakers to send to. You can now wirelessly stream music and Videos from your devices.
  8. The USB Port on the Airport Express is for a printer that can then be used in the whole network of all devices used. The connected device can be configured on each Computer as a network printer.
  9. Finally, click on the "Update" Button to save the Changes.
