You can turn off the Monitor of your MacBook, and, for example, everything on a external Monitor. How this works, read here.

With a key combination on the internal MacBook-turn off Monitor

If you turn off the Monitor of your MacBook, for example, during a longer Downloads, you will save battery power. But if you want to display the image on an external Monitor, it is useful to the internal Display off.
  • For this you need to hold the keys Ctrl, Shift and Eject (button at the top right in the corner) for a few seconds.
