E-Mail - a revolutionary idea
What many do not know: The E-Mail is older the the Internet we use on a daily basis.
- The World Wide Web in its current Form has only existed since 1989. Before there was the so-called "Arpanet" (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), however, the military was reserved for.
- This Arpanet was developed by the US research firm Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) under contract to the U.S. Department of defense.
- One of the involved, a computer engineer named Ray Tomlinson was. During his work, developed Tomlinson in 1971, E-Mail , rather than a by-product or as a Gimmick. Neither he himself, nor anybody else, the Potential of this invention is realized at the time.
- He just wanted a file from one Computer to another to send. To the addressee, and the Computer differ, has used Tomlinson, the "@"character as a separator. The simple reason is that This character is not present in the written language.
- How little attention to this revolutionary invention had at the time, even for the inventor himself, shows a Statement Tomlinson made against a colleague. "Don't tell anyone! This isn \ ’t what we’re supposed to be working on." In English: "don't tell anyone! This is not what we are supposed to work." Finally, the mandate to develop the Arpanet was.
- Until today, the System of the E-Mail has been developed further, but the basic principle is still the same.
- In Germany came the first E-Mail only on 3. August 1984. The news came from the US University of Cambridge, recipient of Michael Rotert, University of Karlsruhe. In the subject line state "Welcome to CSNET".
