Owncloud for Mac OS X setup instructions

1. Owncloud on the Mac: Server setup

First of all, you need to prepare your Mac:
  • To do this, you need to have the PHP scripting language and Apache web server. The company "appsolute" has made a pre-made package called "MAMP" that meets these requirements.
  • Download the package from the website of the manufacturer and install it. Then start the Server with a click on "start Server".

2. Owncloud on Mac OS X set up

Now you can start the setup of Owncloud:
  1. Download the Web Installer from the manufacturer's website and copy it in the directory "applications/MAMP/htdocs".
  2. You then call the address "http://localhost:8888/setup-owncloud.php".
  3. Select the question according to the subdirectory "owncloud" and click next. Now you need to wait a bit, because the Installer downloads the Software. After completion of a name and the password for the Administrator Account.
  4. So not only do you have your network from accessing your files, you need a so-called DynDNS-entry. This service provides a virtual address that refers to an actual IP address of the router. A recommended service is noip.com. However, you have to log in here to protect the IP every 30 days. Otherwise, your entry will be forfeited. There, you can create your desired URL.
  5. You have created your entry, you must enter the data of your DynDNS provider in your Router. As the FritzBox is the most common, we show the procedure to your example.
  6. You go into your FritzBox in the setting of "DynDNS". You can find it under "Internet" and "shares". Enter the data for the provider.
  7. Their Cloud is also accessible via the Internet, you need to switch to a so-called Port-forwarding. You can find this in the Fritz box under "port forwarding", you can also access under "Internet" > "shares". You then bind the Port 80 to Port 8888, because you have used previously.
  8. Your files can then, reach under your desired URL and Port 8888 (for example, http://chiptest.noip.com:8888).
