If your Firefox hangs when starting, the problem may be newly installed add-ons. We will show you what you can do to get the Browser Running again.

Start Firefox in safe mode

To start Troubleshooting, you must first start the Browser in safe mode.
  1. You open your start menu and find the entry "Mozilla Firefox". On the entry, right click and select "Send to" -> "Desktop (create shortcut)" (see Screenshot). You can do this even if you already have a shortcut on the Desktop.
  2. Now go to your Desktop. Right click on the newly created shortcut and select "properties".
  3. Go to the tab "shortcut".
  4. In the "target:" field is already in the path to the Firefox program folder. To add, behind this the text "safe mode". For example: "C:\Programme\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" safe mode".
  5. You close the window, click "OK".

Firefox Addons to remove

If you have recently installed a Firefox Addon or a Theme, and since then the Browser crashes, you can disable this now.
  1. To do this, start by double-clicking on the previously created shortcut to the Browser in Safe Mode. Select in the appearing dialog window the option "start In safe mode".
  2. Press in the menu bar, click "tools" -> "Add-Ons". If there is no menu bar, press on the "ALT".
  3. Select the Tab "extensions" or "appearance" depending on whether you want to disable an Addon or a Theme.
  4. You will find the entry of the most recently installed extension and click "Disable".
  5. You close the Browser, and do not start in normal mode again, i.e., this time about the "Safe-Mode link". If the affected extension brought the Browser to crash, the issue should be resolved now.

Firefox to default settings reset

If the Start of Firefox will not be disturbed by an Addon, it often helps the Browser to default settings reset. This in most cases solves the Problem.
  1. Double-click on the "Safe-Mode-link". You choose, however, this time, in the next dialog window "reset Firefox".
  2. In the next window, you know, which data are stored. All the others (extensions and Themes, page-specific preferences, search engines, Download history, DOM storage, security settings, Download actions, Plugin settings, preferences, toolbars, user-defined styles and Firefox services).
  3. Click on "reset Firefox" to complete the process.
  4. In the next window click on "finish".
  5. Your Browser should now start properly. You can now delete the "Safe-Mode-link" from your Desktop.
