Drupal Core Update Preparations
- Usually an Update runs without problems, nevertheless, you should create a backup copy of your database. The easiest way is with the Drupal module Backup Migrate.
- In addition, it is strongly recommended to enable the page for the measure in the maintenance mode. The maintenance mode area, select "configuration -> maintenance mode".
- Of course you will need the latest Version of Drupal. When you Download, please pay attention to the correct core version: Have you created your page with Drupal 7 you will need the current Version 7.43 and not Drupal 8.

Drupal Core update so it works
You have created a Backup of your database and the page in maintenance mode, ready to go. Please read the instructions carefully, so that you accidentally delete important files and folders.
- The easiest way to update Drupal via FTP. Log in with your FTP access and if necessary please change to the Root directory of Drupal.
- Since the unpacked new Drupal version is already on your computer ready to delete it in the Drupal Root directory, all files and folders except ".htaccess", the "robots.txt" and the directory "sites". In the directory "sites" are all of your installed modules and Themes. This directory must not be deleted.
- In the following step, you will upload all files to the new Drupal version, except for the ".htaccess", the "robots.txt" and the directory "sites" from your computer to the Server.
- The Transfer is done, open the URL "http://IhreDomain.de/update" in your Browser. On the following page, you will be reminded of it, how important is the backup of the database and of the maintenance mode. Follow the instructions on this page, and update the Drupal Core.
- Everything works fine, you can return after the completion of the Updates to your site and the maintenance mode is cancelled.
