Whether it's in the App, on TV or on a web site: To the weather report the chance of rain is simply a must. How exactly they will, however, be calculated, is likely to surprise many.
- In the determination of the probability of precipitation meteorologists have access to information from the German weather service on similar cases, or weather conditions.
- This means, for example, for the statement, "Tomorrow is to be expected with a probability of precipitation of 30 per cent.", that it has not rained in three cases out of ten the forecast weather situation at the respective location.
- Neither is said that it will rain on 30 percent of the day, nor how much it's going to rain.
- Also, this probability includes the mode of precipitation is not a statement about the expected low.
