What CPU fan do you have, or need, is not easy to find out. More important than the fan itself, the Base, the first heat sink and the fan are mounted in this case. So you need to know first, what is the CPU Socket used in your motherboard. How to find out the simplest, we will explain in this practical tip.

What Socket my CPU?

If you are not a PC expert and your Computer prefer not to want to open, find the correct socket type with a diagnostic program, for example, with CPU-Z.
  1. Download CPU-Z and open the program. You will then receive automatically all relevant CPU information is displayed.
  2. Behind the "Package" you can see the socket type directly (in the example picture "AM2").

Now that you know your Socket, you can buy a new heatsink and its fan.
  • The currently built-in fan, you can't derive directly from the shape: In Ready-to-PCs are usually used in the Standard heat sink, processor manufacturer with a 60mm fan.
  • You can use also the noise you Hear from your PC at a high computational cost, a high-frequency whirring, it's probably a small Standard CPU fan.
