What a hard drive is and how it works?
A hard disk is the storage medium in your Computer. All of your documents, images, or programs are backed up.
- Often the hard disk is referred to as a HDD. This means in detail "Hard Disk Drive", and referred to a normal hard drive. A special type of SSD, another hard drive, which we will explain in the second paragraph is.
- The HDD uses a magnetic storage system, just like a floppy disk or a sound and video tape.
- In the case of hard disks, rotating disks are used, on whose surface the data are stored.
- When Writing information, the magnetic surface of the disks is magnetized permanently and without touching magnetized.
- When reading the data, a Sensor senses this magnetization of the disk without contact and transforms the values back into readable data.
- In hard disk drives, the stored information will be grouped in blocks, each with a fixed size. Most of the blocks of 512 or 4096 bytes in size. The storage capacity of a disk is then obtained from the size of a block multiplied by the number of blocks.
- The more these individual blocks are apart, the longer the Reading process can take. Therefore, you should check your hard disk regularly defragmenting.
- Typical sizes for hard drives are 3.5 "and 2.5". The larger disks are the Standard in Desktop computers, while the smaller models are mainly used in SSDs, and Notebooks to use.
- Furthermore, you can choose between internal and external hard drives can be distinguished: Internal HDDs in your PC, while external hard drives via USB to any device that can connect.
- The best current hard disk drives can be found in our HDD-best list.

What a SSD drive is?
If you want to change from a HDD to an SSD or the old hard drive to get rid of, you should delete and destroy. Three ways to hard drive destruction can be found in a further practical tip. In addition, we will show you all hard drives Must-Haves.
