Real quality hedgehog: The abbreviations for used records
Whether on Ebay, Amazon or in a record store around the corner. In the case of used vinyl records you can't get around abbreviations. Most of these describe the condition of the Vinyls and Covers:
- SS (Still Sealed): This acronym stands for new and welded plate.
- M (Mint): Vinyl is new and unplayed. Also, the Cover shows no wear and tear.
- NM (Near Mint): Vinyl has been played very rarely. It has, therefore, lost no sound quality. For the Cover of No visible use, the following applies: traces and described, nor to angels.
- VG+ (Very Good +): vinyl has no significant loss of quality. With other words: The Vinyl may contain small scratches and it might a slight noise. The Cover has small tears or wear, but is still in good condition.
- VG/EX (Very Good / Excellent): Vinyl was frequently played, and has quality losses, such as regular noise or Scratching. The Label and the Cover are in fair condition, but may show signs of wear and creases included.
- VG- (Very Good -): often played record with mediocre sound quality. The Cover is torn, marked or lightly soiled.
- G (Good): The Vinyl has lost much of its quality. In some Places, distortion, or larger scratches may occur. Label and Cover are heavily damaged, or dirty. They can be labeled also.
- F/P (Fair/Poor): The record can still play, but with very bad sound quality. The Cover is heavily damaged or even torn.
- Note: Usually, the Cover is considered separately from the panel: In the case of a NM-Vinyl M-Cover of the record has been played so already, the Cover has no signs of usage.

In the case of vinyl, there are not only abbreviations for the condition of the plate. Many sellers price give also information about the pressure or the type of the cover. Many of you will also find new records.
- OG (Original): The record is a first edition or an original pressing.
- REISSUE (re-release): The plate is a licensed re-release of the actual work.
- PROMO (Promotion): This is a promotional record. Most of these have been distributed to advertising by DJs or radio stations purposes.
- The PC (picture cover): The vinyl contains the original cover in color.
- LC (hole cover): The Cover contains in the middle a "hole". These records are mostly from the old machine.
- WOC (Writing on Cover): The Cover is labeled by the purchaser or has been covered. Usually these are names or archive numbers, which can not be removed.
- CO (Cut-Out): The Cover is cut off on a corner or has a small hole. Most of the time it is Committee or import goods.
