SSD install: you need to pay attention to
Whether the new SSD to replace the hard drive in your Laptop or the office Computer as an additional Turbo-drive to serve: There are some requirements that your PC must meet. These are not met, you cannot take advantage of either the speed of the SSD, or Flash drive is not even recognized in the first place.
- You should have at least Windows 7, or better yet, Windows 8 installed. Older versions are not yet SSD-optimized and do not have yet via the TRIM function, the SSD after some time still to work fast.
- The motherboard must have a SATA connector. For the SSD Speed SATA is recommended-3, but with SATA 2, the drive does not work. Information, please refer to the manual of your Mainboads.
- In the BIOS the AHCI must be enabled-mode. This allows the transmission of data over the SATA interface. How to enter the BIOS settings, you will learn in the manual as well.
SSD to use as an additional drive
If you want to install the speed Upgrade, only as an extension to an already existing hard disk, this is done with just a few hand movements.
- In the case of Desktop PCs, enough free drive bays are usually available.
- In the case of Laptops, however, is so good as never enough Platzm to a second hard drive or SSD. In this case, you must replace the old drive, which is explained below.

Space for a second HDD or SSD
Your existing hard drive, replace SSD
If you have a Laptop with only one drive space or for the best possible increase in performance of Windows on the SSD, want to install, you need to go a step further. Because the entire operating system is re-installed, and thus, all data not backed up will be lost.
- Back up all personal data to an external memory, such as a USB hard drive.
- To build on the old hard drive and put the SSD in the above-linked guide. In the case of a Laptop, you need to remove the bottom plate.
- Now start the Computer with a Windows CD. The PC starts from the CD and you can install the operating system on the SSD. What you need to consider, we have here for you collected.
- After the Installation, copy your data back onto the Computer. Your System should now be significantly faster than before.
But attention: Windows is still installed on your old hard drive if not already formatted. In order to avoid that the "old" Windows Installation is started, format your hard drive as described here.
