Replace hard drive with Windows 7

Windows 7 reports that your System drive is defective and must be replaced. Thanks to a new function, you do not need to reinstall Windows 7, but only the system partition on the new hard disk copy.

Backing up the hard drive

Before you replace the HDD, you must first back up all data. Here, it is recommended to use an external hard drive. Connect them to the PC. Make sure to look for the backup operation, the external disk enough free disk holding space, and that it is formatted NTFS.
  • Go to the control panel, click "System and security" and click on "action center". Select then "backup".
  • Windows will now ask you which hard disk you want to backup where. Select the external hard drive.
  • You can put the backup on a second internal hard drive. However, it must be necessarily a "basic disk". Dynamic drives are rejected by Windows 7 as the target drive, and need to be converted in the data carrier management in a base-disk.

Windows system disk, replace

  • Turn off the PC and unplug the mains plug.
  • You briefly to a heating pipe or other grounded object. So avoid static charging.
  • Open the PC case and install the Board into a free slot.
  • Disconnect the IDE and power cable from the old hard drive. Connect then both to the new plate.

System installation on the new hard drive

  • You boot up the PC with the installation DVD of Windows 7 again.
  • After booting, the Windows 7 starts the installation routine: After you have entered the serial number, you must specify which Partition is to be installed. Take advantage of the options offered to partition the new hard drive and format it in NTFS Format.
  • You can cancel the Windows Installation now and restart the PC with the installation DVD.
  • Now, you choose, however, instead of "Installation" in the "repair options ". Windows 7 does not find any corrupt Partition. Click on "Next".
  • From the following options, select "Computer restore". The Tool searches for backup files and the backup on the connected external drive. Confirm that the Win7-Tool is allowed to overwrite the data on the target drive.
  • After a further 30 minutes, the porting is complete and Windows 7 departs from the new record high, as if nothing had happened.
