Print cartridge and protect from drying
If your printer is not used for a long time, you should apply the following methods to protect your printer from dried-up ink cartridges.
- You print a regular test page. At least 1x a month. So that you should be on the safe side.
- If you fear to forget the pressure of the test page, you can take the print cartridge out of the printer. Wrap the cartridge in a foil and keep it in the fridge. However, this method is rather cumbersome.
Printing cartridge is already dried up
- Some printers offer their Software methods to clean the print head. You try it, let the print head quiet may several times to clean. The chances are that your print cartridge is liquefied again, not so bad.
- The cleaning settings for your printer, you'll usually find, when you open a document to print. Click on "Print" > "properties". Depending on the type of printer you go on "maintenance". Sometimes printer manufacturers also offer separately-to-install cleaning software.
- Of course, the consumption of the ink in the above-mentioned method is high. As an Alternative, you can take the cartridge out of the device and the print head with a damp cloth or cotton swab to clean it. Use warm water, but no additives of detergents!
