PS4 start in safe mode
- Turn off your PS4 completely.
- Then press and hold the Power button on the console for seven seconds until you hear two short beeps.
- Now connect the Controller via USB cable to the PS4 and press the PS button to activate it.
- So you are in safe mode, and can control with the Controller through the menu.

In safe mode, the Playstation 4, you will find a total of seven menu items, which contain certain functions:
- "System reboot": The first entry completed the Safemode and starts the PS4 back to normal.
- "Change resolution": This Option changes the screen resolution to 480p when the PS4 System is restarted. The should you do if the Playstation image is not fully displayed on your TV.
- "System software update": allows you to update your console. The PS4 can update the system software via Internet, USB Stick or Disc.
- "Restore default settings": allows you to delete all settings and reset the PS4 to factory state.
- "Database rebuild": With this Option, the hard drive of the console to be scanned, and a new database of the saved files created.
- "Playstation 4" initialize: Select this item to delete all data and settings of the PS4.
- "Playstation 4 initialize (system software re-install)": With this Option, you delete all data from the PS4, including the system software. Then a message that you want to connect a USB flash disk that contains the system software appears. The PS4 installed on the System.
