The healthy date has been an integral part of the daily diet in the Middle East for several thousand years. On the outside, the brown fruit doesnt look like much, but in the case of the date, the well-known popular saying applies: "Its whats inside that counts."

Date – healthy power packs for your health

There are a lot of fruits that look much more attractive than dates. But when it comes to nutrients, hardly anyone can beat the healthy fruits. Because dates contain an almost unbelievably high proportion of nutrients.

  • Among other things, the fruits contain a lot of sulfur. Sulfur is essential for our body , even if the mineral - in contrast to many other nutrients - is relatively rarely discussed.
  • In addition to vitamin A , which is essential for our eye health, there are also plenty of vitamins B3, B5 and B6, which ensure a stable nervous system in the fruit. There is also vitamin K and a little vitamin C.
  • The power fruit is also not short on minerals that are essential for our body. Dates contain over fifteen minerals, including magnesium , manganese, copper, selenium , zinc, iron, phosphorus, calcium and potassium.
  • With a potassium content of around 330 milligrams per 50 grams, the date even tops the banana, which contains around half as much potassium. Potassium is important for our nerves. Especially since potassium also has a blood pressure-lowering effect.
  • The dates also score points with a good portion of antioxidants, which protect our cells from free radicals.
  • Due to their fiber, the fruits also ensure regulated digestion and a balanced blood sugar level, which is particularly important for diabetics.
  • There are also unsaturated fatty acids such as linolenic acid and linoleic acid as well as over 20 amino acids. Including the amino acid tryptophan, which our body needs to produce serotonin. Serotonin is not called the happiness hormone for nothing; it puts us in a good mood and helps us fall asleep.

Dates - an all-round healthy food

The bread of the desert, as the date is often called, has quite a few calories. This is due, among other things, to the fact that the food consists of well over 60 percent sugar, such as fructose and glucose.

  • However, diabetics can also use it, as insulin levels rise much more slowly due to the fructose and high-quality fiber. However, it applies to everyone: keep your measurements, otherwise the dates will soon become noticeable on your hips. Two hundred grams of dates are eaten quickly and contain around 600 calories.
  • In order for the concentrated power of dates to have a positive effect on our organism, it is enough if you eat three to four dates every day. If you use the fruit to sweeten a homemade muesli instead of table sugar, you will benefit twice.
  • In short: dates are good for the nervous system and the heart muscles. The fruits stimulate metabolism, strengthen bones and lower LDL cholesterol.
  • As already mentioned, dates are characterized by a high sulfur content and therefore the fruits are said to relieve allergic reactions such as hay fever.
  • Nevertheless, dates can sometimes help you lose weight because they keep blood sugar levels constant and thereby prevent food cravings.
