In connection with Android you can hear besides a Custom ROM also, often the term Stock ROM. We explain to you the difference.

What a ROM is?

As a ROM (Read Only Memory) is referred to in the case of Smartphones, in General, the Firmware. So the Software on the device, which is comparable with the Beriebssytem on a Computer.

What is a Stock ROM is?

The Stock ROM is the Firmware, which is played directly from the manufacturer on the Smartphone. This is based on the Android source code of each Android Version (e.g. Froyo, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwitch, Jelly Bean, Kit Kat) and the modifications of the manufacturer (e.g. Sense for HTC or TouchWiz for Samsung). When buying a new smartphone you have always installed a Stock ROM.
