Traveling on public transport can often be stressful. However, the best apps for local transport enable you to have a relaxed journey by bus, tram or train.

With the following free train apps for Android and iOS, traveling by train becomes much clearer.

  • DB Navigator: The DB Navigator ( Android / iPhone ) is a popular train app that shows you numerous train connections throughout Europe. The app offers real-time information, a delay alarm and a savings price finder.
  • Omio: With the train app Omio ( Android / iPhone ) you can access the connections of around 800 transport companies within Europe. These include Deutsche Bahn, Flixtrain, National Rail and Eurostar. You can book tickets directly via the app. If you cant find a train connection, you will be shown alternative bus or flight routes.
  • Trainline: With the Trainline application ( Android / iPhone ) you can search and compare train and bus connections in over 45 countries.

Public transport: The best apps for buses and trams

Most German transport associations offer their own apps for local public transport in your city. For example, you can find an app for the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund , for the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe or for the Municher Verkehrsverbund .

However, there are also other free applications in addition to the apps from the city transport associations.

  • Moovit: The public transport app Moovit ( Android / iPhone ) is an international app for urban mobility. The applications shows you options for: bus, train, subway, bike, scooter and more. However, it is not yet usable in all German cities.
  • Public transport timetable information: The public transport application ( Android ) shows you timetables for buses, trams or subways throughout Germany. The app uses real-time information for delays and can also display connections to 15 other countries.
  • ally: The application Ally ( iPhone ) takes taxis and car sharing into account in addition to public transport connections. Ally can be used in 14 major German cities.
  • Citymapper: You can use the Citymapper app ( Android /
    iPhone ) in Hamburg and Berlin. The cheapest and best connections by bus, train and bike are shown here.
