Extender is a mostly Canon used name for the lens Converter. With it, you increase the focal length of the Objetives.

Lens-Extender - For What?

A lens or tele-Converter increases the focal length of the camera attached to the Lens. To do this, the Extender is screwed between the camera and the actual lens. Advantages and disadvantages of converters are:
  • The increased focal length distant objects can be shown larger. A tele-Converter enables you to zoom closer to an object.
  • There's a Converter are much smaller and lighter than another lens, it is especially on-the-go very convenient. So save yourself several heavy lenses, because you can use every lens with and without Converter, and thus two different focal lengths have.
  • By the intermediate lens Converter light is lost, however. So you need to adjust your exposure time and the aperture so that the subject is not underexposed.
  • Well lens errors are amplified by the tele-Converter more, and can degrade the image.
