slow motion with After Effects: 1. Time-stretching the video
The easiest way to reduce the normal playback speed: in The menu "time dilation". By a percentage value, you change the original speed.
- After you add a Video to your composition, click the right mouse button.
- In the context menu, select "time" and then "time stretch...".
- Now enter any value. You set the factor, for example, 200% will halve the playback speed, 50% doubled. Incidentally, you can also enter a negative number, then the Video runs backwards.

2. Slow motion Effect: time distortion of a film
For more freedom in the customization of your video file, select the time distortion. Here, you can shift the initial time to individual Frames (images), by using Keyframes:
- Right-click your Video to open the context menu.
- Here you click on "time" and "time distortion" check box. Alternatively, press the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [T].
- In the composition window, the line "time distortion will appear under your Video now"; where the stopwatch icon is already turned on, so that you can set Keyframes. Now any number of Keyframes can be (by rhombus shown), and set it to the left or right to move. When you drag two Keyframes closer together, the Video runs faster if you increase the distance, but slower.
- If you only want to slow down a section in the Video, be sure to select the Keyframes after this point, and to move. Otherwise, the time is stretched at the beginning, but the Video runs from this date faster.

3. Possibility for the slow-motion effect Frame Blending for smooth Videos
Especially if you want to get more images from a Video, as the camera has recorded, the Video is in Slow-Motion quick-jerky. The Film requires at least 24 FPS (frames per second), so that our eye takes it liquid true. For slow motion is, therefore, that you should record the Original Video at least with 50 FPS and display it smoothly with half the speed. If your camera does not allow this, or even 50 frames per second are not enough, After Effects is a clever Tool which calculates the missing images:
- In the composition, are to the right of the file name of several squares, wherein a film strip is. Click in this box to either a diagonal solid line or a dotted line appears. Alternatively, you can select both, right-click on the file and then on "Frame Blending".
- The continuous line stands for a Pixel-Motion. Only the changing of the image are calculated, and it creates a kind of veil around the object. Overall, but consumes less resources when rendering and the overall image looks peaceful.
- Select the dotted line, is enabled, the Frame Mix. Here, Transitions between images are calculated. The overall picture appears a bit blurred, especially at a higher output-FPS-to recommend number. The render takes longer.

How to download more effects to your composition, add read in this practical tip. A good camera for slow motion recordings, for example, the GoPro Actioncam, allows you to record up to 240 images per second. If this but still stuttering, you will find a solution: GoPro-Video is choppy – what to do?.
