Update via PCIe card
Best to add SATA with a PCI-Express Controller card. So not only do you have the full speed, but can also decide how many SATA ports do you want to have.
- You open your PC and look if your motherboard has a free PCIe Slot. They are based on the picture on the right. It doesn't matter whether it is PCIe x1 or x16 because the x1 fit in a x16.
- If there is a free Slot there, be sure to order a PCIe to SATA III controller card.
- Once your card has arrived, you can install this. Disconnect your Computer from the power and turn off the power supply. Open the Computer then.
- Now, insert the PCIe SATA III card in a free PCIe Slot and secure it with screws on the slot panel.
- Now you can connect your hard disks or other SATA devices to the card.
- You close your PC and connect it to the power.
- After the power is turned on, your Computer should recognize the card automatically and the SATA Ports provide.
In the next tip we will explain what PCI-Express actually is and what it can do.
