Data backup before replacing the hard drive
To be able to have your game files on your new hard disk, you must back up your data before hard drive replacement. We have prepared for you a short manual. More Details can you find in this article.
- Connect a USB Stick or hard drive to your Playstation and open the menu.
- Select "manage application saved data > Saved data in system storage" > "USB storage device".
- Select via the [X] button, all the files you want and click "Copy". Then remove your USB-Stick.

Reinstallation of the system software:
To your PS4 with the new hard drive. you will need to Update the system software. To do this, you need a mass storage device (e.g. USB Stick) with at least 1 GB of free memory.
- Download the Firmware Update from the official Playstation website and Save the file on your USB mass storage. It is important that you create the folder "PS4" and in the subfolder "UPDATE" and the file "PS4UPDATE.PUP“, which you have just downloaded, save. The folder structure must look, therefore, as follows: storage device:\PS4\UPDATE
- You close your prepared storage device to your PS4. This must be turned off completely.
- Press the Power button on your PS4 for about 7 seconds to start the security mode.
- Click on: "install System Software" and follow the instructions of the setup. Your PS4 should recognize the Update, you should check the in point 1 described folder structure.
- The Installation is completed, you can restart your PS4 as normal.

With the following instructions, you can copy the backed up files back to your PS4.
- Connect a USB Stick or hard drive to your PS4 and open the menu.
- Navigate to "administration of the application saved data > Saved data on USB storage > device," copy "In system memory" and select the files you want to copy using the [X] button to return assure.
